Fight Fires Festival

Student Project

Art Director: Scott Laserow

Fight Fires Festival, my thesis project, consists of posters, vinyl’s, t-shirts, sweatshirts, a mobile app, and a website. This past year, as forest fires occurred in Australia, social media became flooded with donation pages, pictures, videos, and so much content surrounding the forest fires. There was a huge focus surrounding the animals that were harmed from the forest fires, showing the way it harmed them and the burns they were experiencing. As this situation went viral, what wasn’t talked about all over social media was how prevalent this issue is all around the world. Forest fires are occurring in not only Australia, but also Africa, Brazil, Asia, the Arctic, and much more. These locations are the main areas suffering from forest fires, which is how they became the primary locations for the Fight Fires Festival. There is a specific headliner for each location, as seen throughout the branding. When there was such a surge on social media of the Australian forest fires, I noticed the way people were drawn to the posts displaying animals specifically. This contributed to the brand system of designing this festival. I wanted to show the animals that were the most at risk in each location, along with this, I wanted to veer away from typical wasteful products given at these typical festivals. In conclusion, there would be no paper tickets and no plastics. The main goals that the Festival is hoping to achieve are to help the people and animals struggling in these areas, to raise money to help repair damage from the fires, and to help the economy, due to the lack of tourism from these occurences.
